Outcome

I would to thank everyone who has been involved in this process, which has been difficult at times, as we seek to build a strong future and foundation from which to continue the work of the Church in our Pastoral Area of Dunedin. The outcome to date is explained below in the simplest of terms.

St Joseph’s Cathedral Parish

To remain an independent Parish.

St Mary’s, Kaikorai; St Joseph’s, Brockville; St Francis Xavier, Mornington

The Hills Finance Committee voted in recommendation that these three Parishes be suppressed, and a new Parish be created to include the former Parishes geographic territories.
Sacred Heart Home, Brockville would continue to operate its own independent chaplaincy by the Little Sisters of the Poor.
The Finance Committee of the new Parish would have the task of recommending to the Parish Priest future initiatives for the good of the Parish.
When Bishop Michael receives in writing the request from the Parish Priest to form the merged Parish he will then take this to the Diocesan Priests Council for ratification. The next Priests Council will be in February 2027.

Parish Tramp up Flagstaff - Sat 3 Oct 2026

Many thanks to those who took part in the tramp. it was little cold but great to get out up a hill together. Definitely to be repeated next year in another wonderful Dunedin location.
